"At this moment, we're here in Vegas completely ready to start this season strong with our brand new top 24 contestants with outstanding voices, but tonight... the boys will be performing for the chance to make it to the top 6, meaning that only 6 will make it and six others will be eliminated. Ladies and gentlemen, this... is American Idol!" Ryan Seacrest says.
"And now, let's give it up for your judges!" The announcer said. "Keith Urban, Nicki Minaj, and Mariah Carey!"
Keith, Nicki, and Mariah all walked out together, Keith held Nicki's hand as they both waved at the crowd cheering loudly, they all sat at the panel, while the announcer yelled, "And your host, Ryan Seacrest!"
Ryan walked out with his microphone and he amiably greeted everyone in the audience. "Greetings, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to American Idol!"
"So, we have officially confirmed our top 24 contestants of season 13, but before we get to the real deal, let's talk to the judges about this. Keith, how do you feel about the new contestants this season?"
Keith moved up to the microphone and replied, "Um, I'm honestly very interested in these group of kids, they have so much potential and they have so much to work for just to get to that final 12, you know. I'm pretty sure they can give it their all."
The audience cheered and Ryan asked Nicki the same thing.
"I'm really confident in these kids, they have what it takes to be that next artist, to be that next star rising like the others in past seasons, you know what I mean? But it takes personality, emotion, and your voice to prove that you have the chance to be our next winner." Nicki said.
"Lastly, you, Mariah. What do you think about our new top 24 contestants?"
"Um, just like what Nicki and Keith said, they absolutely are amazing, but they definitely have to show us more than just their voice." Mariah said.
"Very good thoughts." Ryan said. "So, tonight, we will be starting off with our top 12 boys of the competition and tomorrow night, we will be getting in with the top 12 girls, but this time, let's introduce the guys, shall we? Ladies and gents, here they are!"
The 12 boys went out in no particular order and the audience cheered loudly, they all smiled as they stood up on the stage.
"Let's welcome Brett Hawkins, Ethan Greyson, Jesse Valentine, Leon Mraz, Andrew Flanagan, William Arnett, Nicholas Santiago, Casey Stocker, Fred Harris, Sam Novotny, Trae Anderson, and Andrew Lovett!"
"Now, we're gonna start things strong with our first singer up tonight, Mr. Andrew Lovett. Let's take a look at his thoughts before his performance."
Hi, my name is Andrew Lovett, I'm 23 years old and I'm from Chicago, Illinois. Being in the top 24 means a lot to me, it's more of a sign that I can be in it to win it. Living in Chicago, it was rough. But I'm trying to get through it all by performing and giving it my all to make it to the final 12, and if I don't, there's always a next time. I will be performing one of my favorite songs, and I hope everyone will be pleased."
The crowd cheered as the lights dimmed down and the red spotlight shone on Andrew L. as he sat on a stool with his guitar.
"She packed my bags last night pre-flight. Zero hour nine a.m. and I'm gonna be high as a kite by then, I miss the earth so much I miss my wife, it's lonely out in space, on such a timeless flight. And I think it's gonna be a long long time till touch down brings me round again to find, I'm not the man they think I am at home, oh no no no I'm a rocket man, rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone."
"Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids, in fact it's cold as hell and there's no one there to raise them if you did and all this science I don't understand, it's just my job five days a week, a rocket man, a rocket man."
Everyone gave Andrew a round of applause while the judges did the same. Keith talked first and replied, "Well, um, Andrew, that was just really amazing. I loved your rendition of it, and I loved the fact that you used a guitar instead of a piano, I love Elton John, he's great. You really did just blow me away, awesome job!"
"Thank you." Andrew said bashfully on the microphone."
"Andy, Andy, Andy Pandy." Nicki said. "You know you my boo and I keep it real with you 100 percent, right?"
"Yes, Nicki." Andrew said.
"Um, well, honestly.." Nicki took a long pause. "I loved the fact that you put a unique twist in the performance, and I loved how you made the song so mellow and so smooth with your voice. But what I really needed to see was more of that character in you, you know what I mean? I just wanted you to show more of that emotion that comes from that song. Rocket Man is a very amazing song, don't get me wrong, but for you, it's good too, I just needed to see a little more of emotion in you. Other than that, great job."
"Andrew, that was a very interesting cover, I must say, darling." Mariah said. "It really was. But I also think that your performances in Hollywood Week and your audition blew me away without the guitar, but like Nicki said, you do need to express yourself a bit more, and get out of that shell."
Andrew nodded his head in agreement and Ryan walked to Andrew and patted him on the back. "Well, Lovett, after what the judges said, how do you feel?"
"Um, I honestly feel great with the feedback, I understood that I needed to show off a bit more and show who I am, and I know that I can do it by just being myself."
"Very good." Ryan said. "Now, although you are not able to vote until the top 12, you also can vote to agree with what the judges said about Andrew by using your phone, going to americanidol.com, and you can also use the app! Thanks, Lovett."
"Now, this New York dude has it all, the sound, and the character, but will it be enough for this next contestant? Mr. Trae Anderson will be performing for you tonight after this break."
Trae waved at the camera and smiled.
"Welcome back to American Idol, guys, now, as I said earlier, you guys are able to vote to agree or disagree with the judges' on a contestant.. but will you agree with Trae Anderson? Let's take a look on him."
My name is Trae Anderson, I'm 17 and I reside in New York. Being diagnosed with asperger's syndrome at the age of 3, it was a challenge for me. It also challenged me to come clean about my passion of singing. I just never thought it would take me this far. The judges loved my Let it Be cover at my auditions..
"Boy, you better werk it!" Nicki said.
But that doesn't mean that they would love the performance I take part in tonight. I just want to show them that I can be in the top 12 without a doubt.
Trae performed "Love Without Tragedy" on the stage, and he walked up to the stage with his microphone as he performed. "Red lipstick, rose petals, heartbreak, I was his Marilyn Monroe. Brown eyes, tuxedo, fast cars, aJames Dean on the low, Dean on the low."
The crowd cheered when he made vocal runs. "I ask you what's the matter, you say, oh it's nothing at all, heart's racing, outta control, and you knew that I couldn't let it go. You used to be this boy I loved and I used to be this girl of your dreams, who knew the course of this one drive injured us fatally. You took the best years of my life, I took the best years of your life, felt like love struck me in the night, I pray that love don't strike twice. Red lipstick, rose petals, heartbreak, I was his Marilyn Monroe, brown eyes, tuxedo, fast cars, a James Dean on the low, what's love without tragedy, what's love without tragedy, what's love without tragedy, what's love without tragedy."
"You took the best years of my life, I took the best years of your life, felt like love struck me in the night, I pray that love don't strike twice. Red lipstick, rose petals, heartbreak, I was his Marilyn Monroe, brown eyes, tuxedo, fast cars, a James Dean on the low, what's love without tragedy, what's love without tragedy, what's love without tragedy, what's love without tragedy."
"Oooh, ooh, ooh. Oooh, ooh, ooh. Oooh, ooh, ooh. Oooh, ooh, oooh."
Trae ended the song and Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban stood up for a standing ovation, and Trae smiled all the way through. His mother and father cheered him on and Keith yelled out, "Trae! Whoo! Dude, that was freaking out of this world. The same Trae I knew during auditions. But, um, that was really great, I don't even know that song and I found it really interesting because of you. Your emotion really poured out in the song and I'm really pround of you."
"Thanks so much."
"Trizzy boy. Babe, you never disappoint me.. seriously. Just watching you perform that song made me feel like I was in a fantasy. The thing that also makes me smile is that you are so open with who you are, and the fact that you never changed the lyrical content up at all, you made it your own and that's what I love about you. I'm obsessed with you." Nicki said.
"That was magical, Trae. I really like you, just keep on doing what you do, and trust me, sweetheart, you will DEFINITELY go far in this competition. Period." Trae smiled when Mariah said that to him, and Ryan came to him.
"How do you feel about the judges' critique on you?" Ryan said. Trae was bashful and completely shocked.
"I'm.. um... actually relieved." Trae giggled. "Seriously, I'm really proud and I just hope that they can consider me, and know that I'm determined to stay."
The judges smiled at him, and Ryan stated, "Now, on to our next contestants, they're both here to see if they have the potential to be the next star. Sam Novotny and Fred Harris may be the ones to do it when we come back from our break!" Sam and Fred both waved at the cameras in the back room.
"Welcome back to American Idol, everyone. In New Jersey, we met a guy with a strong voice, I must say. In Hollywood, he got all of the love from the girls. But will he still get that love when he performs tonight? Let's take a look at Sam Novotny!"
I guess you can say I'm a bit popular with the girls, even though I'm not into them. I guess my masculinity just kicks in. I'm Sam Novotny, and I'm 21 years old and I'm from Trenton, New Jersey. Being gay was a somewhat challenge for me. I just want to be the next guy to make my dreams come true and just be a role model for the other teens and guys out there who are afraid to be who they really are. And I just want to be me to show everyone that I'm proud.
Sam stood at the microphone with his guitar, as the band played behind him. Green and yellow lights blinked at him. "Hello you. How was the rest? You made it through, but nevertheless I got you, out on a wire, you be love and I’ll be a liar, tell it all and fill up the air, but make it loud ‘cause nobody’s there. Nobody's there, nobody's there, yeah. Stop, turn, take a look around at all the lights and sounds, let ‘em bring you in. Slow, burn, let it all fade out and pull the curtain down, I wonder where you've been."
"I’ve got a way to work this out, I’ve got a way and you know how, I’ve got a way to work this out, I’ve got a way and you know how, I’ve got a way to work this out, I’ve got a waaay... , I've got a way to work this out, I’ve got a way and you know how, I’ve got a way to work this out, I’ve got a waaay... , I've got a way to work this out, I've got a way and you know how, I’ve got a way to work this out, I’ve got a waaay..."
"Stop, turn, take a look around at all the lights and sounds, let ‘em bring you in, slow, burn, let it all fade out and pull the curtain down, I Wonder where you've been, you've earned everything you've found and painted faces frown, I'll say I knew you will...."
The judges gave a round of applause and the girls loudly screamed for Sam, and Keith yelled out, "Sammy! Dude, you are out of control tonight! You have the whole crowd screaming, and everything."
"I love you Sam!" A random girl cheered out and Keith chuckled, and continued his statement.
"Anyways, dude, that was just so awesome. Your tone and your song choice was really impressive tonight and I don't know what we would all do without your voice here. It would be a disaster."
"Thank you so much." Sam said. Nicki turned closer to the microphone, "Hey Sam."
"What I have to say about this is that... you served it. You seriously served it. I just want to capture you and put you in a jar to keep you forever, that's how obsessed I am with your voice. Honestly, you and Trae are the strongest boys on this competition so far, and trust me, you will definitely make it far if you give your all to be here. That was just amazing." Nicki said.
"Sam, you impress me." Mariah said. "You being here is the best thing that has really happened in American Idol history. I don't know what else to say but that."
"Thanks." Sam said. Ryan came to him and asked him a question. "So, Sam. You may be into guys, but are you flattered by all of the girls all over you?"
"Um, absolutely, I find it very flattering that all of the girls... including Nicki... are obsessed with me." Sam laughed.
"You know it, boo." Nicki said. Everyone laughed and Ryan patted Sam's back, "Good job, bud. Now, maybe Sam is a bit popular with the girls, but there's another guy we know that's pretty popular.. when it comes to the struggle he faces... let's take a look at Fred Harris' story."
I'm Fred Harris, I'm 17 years old and I reside in Lafayette, Louisiana. As a child, I dealt with bullying a lot... mainly because I wasn't as stronger than the other kids, and I had my dream set on singing. Being born with a learning disability.. it was just a difficult thing for me. People bullied me a lot because of it, but I never backed down When I realized that I could sing, I thought it would help me release tension and have fun, but being part of American Idol will definitely prove that I'm really trying to change and I just want to please the crowd.
"Another head hangs lowly, child is slowly taken and the violence caused such silence, who are we mistaken? But you see, it's not me, it's not my family. In your head, in your head they are fighting, with their tanks and their bombs, and their bombs and their guns. In your head, in your head, they are crying... in your head, in your head, zombie, zombie, zombie, hey, hey, hey. What's in your head, in your head, zombie, zombie, zombie? Hey, hey, hey, hey, oh, dou, dou, dou, dou, dou... Another mother's breakin', heart is taking over. When the vi'lence causes silence, we must be mistaken. It's the same old theme since nineteen-sixteen. In your head, in your head they're still fighting, with their tanks and their bombs, and their bombs and their guns. In your head, in your head, they are dying... in your head, in your head, zombie, zombie, zombie, hey, hey, hey. What's in your head, in your head, zombie, zombie, zombie?Hey, hey, hey, hey, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, hey, oh, ya, ya-a..."
"Hi, Freddy." Nicki said as she started to judge Fred. Fred waved, and smiled.
"I just feel like... that wasn't really your best performance of the night." Nicki said, and she loudly got "booed".
"It wasn't your best song choice honestly, it just didn't show your character and I felt like it could have better."
Fred nodded his head, accepting Nicki's judgement, while Keith began to talk. "I have to agree a bit because... you know, you have that voice and you have that star power in you, and I really thought that I would see more from you tonight, but I just didn't really see that as much tonight."
"Fred, you know I love your voice, and you know that I adore everything you sing too, but when you're competing with a bunch of guys AND girls on a reality TV show, you have to give your all, and I see that you did struggle with performing that song, I saw that in you, so I respect the fact that you held on to singing that performance, but it wasn't really your best tonight."
"Okay, thank you." Fred nodded his head to the reception given to him, and Ryan patted his back. "Wow, um, Fred, they were a bit tough on you, do you agree with the judges?"
"Honestly, I tried, you know. I completely understand what I did was wrong and hopefully if I make it through the top 12, I could assure everyone that I can try again." Fred said.
"Totally, now, if you disagree or agree with the judges, you may vote online or on your phone and the results will show below. Now, up next, we have some interesting guy we met in California, let's see what Casey Stocker will bring to the table AFTER the break." Ryan said. Casey smiled through the camera and waved.
"Welcome back, this is American Idol, and we're down to eight more contestants to perform tonight, but will this one show off, Casey Stocker, ladies and gentlemen."
My name is Casey Stocker, I'm 19 years old and I'm from San Francisco, California. When my father died at 49, I knew there was just something I had to do to accomplish my dreams, I wanted to do something for him and for the rest of my family. Singing is my dream and doing this will change my family's life forever.
A violin played as Casey sat on a stool with his microphone and he began to sing, "A tornado flew around my room before you came, excuse the mess it made, it usually doesn't rain, in Southern California, much like Arizona, my eyes don't shed tears, but, boy, they bawl when I'm thinkin' 'bout you, ooh, no, no, no, I've been thinkin' 'bout you, you know, know, know I've been thinkin' 'bout you. Do you think about me still? Do ya, do ya? Or do you not think so far ahead?"
The audience squealed and cheered as he hit a falsetto. "'Cause I been thinkin' 'bout forever. Or do you not think so far ahead? Cause I been thinkin' 'bout forever. Yes, of course, I remember, how could I forget? How you feel? You know you were my first time, a new feel. It won't ever get old, not in my soul, not in my spirit, keep it alive, we'll go down this road til it turns from color to black and white."
"Or do you not think so far ahead? Cause I been thinkin' 'bout forever. Or do you not think so far ahead? Cause I been thinkin' 'bout forever."
Nicki stood up, shaking her head, and fanning herself, while Keith was shaking his head as he looked at Nicki.
"Casey... Casey.. I think Nicki's in love with you, dude." Keith laughed. Casey replied back, "I can see it too."
"Man, man, when you hit that falsetto, I was like "what the hell is going on?"" Keith said. "But, I love Frank Ocean, and I have his album, but you singing that song, I was a bit scared at first, but hearing you sing that, I just want to hear you sing that again because it was that amazing."
"Thank you so much." Casey said as the crowd cheered.
"Do you have a girlfriend?" Nicki asked flirtatiously.
"At this moment, no." Casey said, and Nicki continued to fan herself.
"Boy, you know how much I just wanted to come up there and slap the sh*t out of you? You killed that song, babe. Why?" Nicki said dramatically. "You just freaking excite me, and your voice is just that crazy. When you hit that falsetto, you made me even more hotter and I just don't understand right now. Why? Why are you so amazing?"
"Hi Casey." Mariah smiled. "You know, when you auditioned, I always assumed you would be more of the rock singer type of guy and I think I was pretty wrong. I never thought I would hear a voice like that coming out of you, and I just adored it so much, darling. Bravo to you."
Ryan walked to Casey and smiled, "Well, it seemed like you pleased the fans and Nicki, right?"
"I guess I did." Casey said, he began to blush.
"Now, you're 19, if you had the chance to date Nicki, would you?" Ryan said. Casey looked at Nicki and she smiled.
"It depends on what Nicki feels aobut it." Casey shrugs.
"Boo, you can call me any day, okay." Nicki said. "I'm just kidding, I can't play with little boys."
Casey laughed, and Nicki shook her head, "No offense, I might go to jail!"
"Ha, well, anyways, I guess dating Nicki is out then, but maybe Nicki will feel the same about Nicholas Santiago and William Arnett... will they attract Nicki somehow, we'll see AFTER this break." Ryan said.
Nicholas and William waved at the camera and smiled.
"During Atlanta auditions, we met this 20 year old, let's take a look at Nicholas Santiago's story." Ryan said.
I'm Nicholas Santiago, I'm 20 years old and I'm from Atlanta, Georgia. Up until my 8th birthday, my mother and father died in a car crash, and it took me a little more mental and physical ability just to live up to that issue. Before auditioning for American Idol, I tried making demos, getting my name out there before I did so. I needed the money, everything to survive. I think that being on American Idol has helped me find my true love for music and I just want to make a living out of it. This means more to me than anything just so I can make my parents proud of me.
"I'm not surprised, not everything lasts, I've broken my heart so many times I stopped keeping track. Talk myself in. I talk myself out. I get all worked up, then I let myself down. I tried so very hard not to lose it. I came up with a million excuses. I thought I thought of every possibility. And I know someday that it'll all turn out. You'll make me work so we can work to work it out. And promise you, kid, that I'll give so much more than I get. I just haven't met you yet. They say all's fair. In love and war. But I won't need to fight it. We'll get it right and we'll be united. And I know that we can be so amazing. And being in your life is gonna change me and now I can see every single possibility, mmmm. And someday I know it'll all turn out. And I'll work to work it out. Promise you, kid, I'll give more than I get, Than I get, than I get, than I get. Ohhh! You know it'll all turn out. And you'll make me work so we can work to work it out. And I promise you, kid, to give so much more than I get. I just haven't met you yet. I just haven't met you yet. Ohh, promise you, kid, to give so much than I get. I just haven't met you yet, I just haven't met you yet."
Everyone clapped for Nicholas and Keith started off to speak. "Nicholas, Michael Buble is awesome... Nicholas Santiago is awesome too. I just love your voice, man. You have the voice that just makes me say "The Winner is Nicholas." Keep it up."
"Thank you, Keith." Nicholas said.
"Hi, Nicki #2!"
"Hi, Nicki #1." Nicholas chuckled.
"I have to agree with Keith, your voice sounds so much like Michael Buble, it's like he's not even singing his own songs, you are. The thing I do want you to work on is more of your energy, more of your confidence. Because I know that you have been going through a tough time in your life and it's challenging to overcome it, but I just want you to feel good about these things and be yourself."
Nicholas nodded his head.
"Nicholas, you aced it, you served it, you did everything to make that song your own, and I adore you so much for that. Hashtag POW." Mariah said.
Nicholas smiled and Ryan came to Nicholas and patted his back.
"Well, Nick, how do you feel about what the judges said?" Ryan asked.
"I think it's pretty awesome, like seriously awesome that the judges loved my performance, and I do accept that I do need to add more energy, so that's what I would do."
"Now, let's get to our next performer that we met in Baton Rouge, the sultry singer, William Arnett."
I'm William Arnett, I'm 23 years old and I'm from Baton Rouge. 3 seasons ago, I auditioned for American Idol when I was 20, then I got cut in Hollywood. It was one of the most devastating moments of my life. But from that year, I learned my mistakes, and I decided to wait more years so I can try again. I can easily say that I learned from my experience, and I'm willing to take that next step to be the next American Idol of the season.
"You are amazing!" Nicki yelled out in the audition room.
"You're going to Hollywood again!" Keith yelled out and William jumped up with happiness.
I'm sure my performance tonight will be the highlight of the night.
William walked his way to the microphone and danced around the stage. "That girl thinks that she's so fine that soon she'll have my mind. That girl thinks that she's so smart, that soon she'll have my heart. She thinks in no time flat, that she'll be free and clear to start. With her emotional rescue of love that you'll leave turn apart. Before I tell her that I love her, that I want her, that my mind, soul and body needs her. Tell her that I'd love to, that I want to, that I need to do all that I have to to be in her love. I've been hurting for a long time and you've been playing for a long time. You know it's true, I've been holding for a long time and you've been running for a long time, it's time to do what we have to do. That girl, That girl."
"That girl knows every single man, would ask her for her hand, but she says her love is much too deep for them to understand. She says her love has been crying out, but her lover hasn't heard, but what she doesn't realize is that I've listened to every word. That's why I know I'll tell that I love her, that I want her, that my mind, soul and body needs her, tell her that I'd love to, that I want to, that I need to do all that I have to, to be in her love."
William ended the song, and Nicki stood up and gave him a standing ovation. She sat down and began to speak. "William... William.... WERK. You better WERK WERK WERK, baby." Nicki said. "Damn, man, that was just out of this world. You just have that style, that style that makes you so freaking sexy. You better WERK IT, WILL."
Mariah replied. "You have that sparkle, that shine in your eye. You're good looking, and your voice is outstanding. I could actually picture myself being in a concert of yours while you perform. You sort of remind me of an older version of the early Frankie Lymon. I really loved your performance tonight, darling."
"Thank you." William said.
"I have to agree with Mariah, you do remind me of Frankie Lymon, he was awesome, and you really have that style he had in the 50s, and it's just... wow, dude. Keep it up."
"Well, Frankie.. I mean, William, has any singers influenced you to sing and have that style the judges see in you?"
"Absolutely, Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson, Stevie, of course, Marvin Gaye, any male singer you can name has influenced me a lot and that's why I'm here... to bring out that style to the world again!"
"Well, if you make it, I'm sure you will." Ryan patted William on his back. "Now, up next, we have another Andrew in store for us tonight to perform, but will he get hte same love Andrew Lovett had? Andrew Flanagan will be performing for you on your television after the break."
Andrew Flanagan winked at the camera and grinned.
"Tonight, another Andrew will be coming to perform for his chance to make it to the finals, but will he please the judges? We'll see before we take a look at Andrew Flanagan's journey so far on American Idol."
I'm Andrew Flanagan, I'm 19 and I'm from Cleveland, Ohio. Although I live in Ohio, I'm originally from Ireland. I moved to America when I was 12. It was a pretty difficult move for me since it was different people to know, a different language and all. It was hard. I guess I want to be the next American Idol because people can love me.
Andrew played on his guitar and sang near the microphone and performed. "Much as you blame yourself, you can't be blamed for the way that you feel, had no example of a love that was even remotely real, how can you understand something that you never had? Ooh, baby, if you let me, I can help you out with all of that. Girl let me love you and I will love you until you learn to love yourself. Girl let me love you, I know your trouble, don't be afraid, girl let me help. Girl let me love you, and I will love you until you learn to love yourself. Girl let me love you, a heart of numbness gets brought to life, I'll take you there. For every heart that beats, for every heart that beats, for every heart that beats, for every heart that beats, heart that beats, heart that beats, heart that beats, heart that beats. Girl let me love you, let me love you, baby, love you, baby, girl let me love you, let me love you babe, love you babe, ooh-ooh-ah."
Everyone clapped for him, while some of the judges didn't seem to be pleased.
"Hi, darling." Mariah said as she smiled. Andrew, with his pleasing charm, he replied, "Hello, sweetheart."
"I hate to say this because I love you.. but, I didn't exactly think it was your best performance. I loved your rendition and your acoustic cover to that song, I love that song a lot. I just think you had a lot of pitchy moments and it just wasn't that great for me."
Mariah was given "boos" and the judges laughed at the crowd. Andrew nodded his head and understood.
"You know, Andrew, I love that you gave it your all, and your charm showed throughout the performance, and you were just in the zone. However, your vocals were a bit pitchy and you would have had a good performance if you didn't lose your path." Keith was also "booed" while Nicki went to the microphone. "Hey, sexy."
"That was the worst performance of the night." Nicki said thoroughly. Everyone booed Nicki and she tried to continue. "However, however, you tried, and I have to respect you for that. You showed yourself, you had the personality, and maybe I didn't feel you vocal wise, I felt the emotion and the charm you tried to show to us tonight and that's what I adore about you."
The crowd cheered for Nicki on the comment and Ryan walked to the stage, asking Andrew how he felt about the performance he did. In his accent, he replied:
"Um, I could have done better, I understand what the judges thought about it, and I know I could have had better song choices to fit me. But I tried, and that's all that matters to me."
Everyone cheered for Andrew and Ryan smiled at him, "You tried and that's definitely a good thing."
"Now, we're down to four more performers left, but let's take these next singers and see their journey: Leon Mraz and Ethan Greyson AFTER this break."
Leon and Ethan smiled at the camera, waving.
"Welcome back to American Idol." Ryan said. "Now, we're gonna get to our next performance, where we met our Chicago contestant Leon Mraz with a very tragic story, pretty similar to Trae's, let's take a look."
I'm Leon Mraz, I'm 21 and I'm from Illinois. I've been a social outcast all of my life. Because of my asperger's syndrome, I've been having a lot of detriments in socializing with others, which causes me to become isolated to many. But I began to study music and I think American Idol will help me get to a brand new start and allow people that hated me to change when they find out how successful I could become.
"You're going to Hollywood!" Keith yelled.
Leon smiled and jumped up and down.
"I am ready for love, why are you hiding from me, I'd quickly give my freedom to be held in your captivity. I am ready for love, all of the joy and the pain and all the time that it takes, just to stay in your good grace. Lately I've been thinking, maybe you're not ready for me, maybe you think I need to learn maturity, they say watch what you ask for cause you might receive but if you ask me tomorrow, I'll say the same thing."
Nicki looked stunned and watched him throughout, in awe with his voice.
"If you give me half a chance, I'll prove this to you , I will be patient, kind, faithful and true, to a man who loves music, a man who loves art, respect's the spirit world and thinks with his heart. I am ready for love if you'll take me in your hands, I will learn what you teach and do the best that I can, I am ready for love, here with an offering of my voice, my Eyes, my soul, my mind, tell me what is enough to prove I am ready for love, I am ready."
Nicki, Keith, and Mariah stood up for a standing ovation. Leon's parents watched him from afar and cheered him on. Nicki looked as if she wanted to cry, she couldn't believe her eyes.
"Woo, Leon. That was just so amazing." Keith said. "That hasn't been done so good since Joshua Ledet and Burnell Taylor did that song. But that coming from you, oh, man. That was just... I'm out of words."
Nicki didn't know what to say at first, she looked away, just shaking her head. "Will you marry me?"
Leon smiled and Nicki shook her head again. "I'm just so stunned to see a guy like you sing something SO sentimental. You brought out so much emotion and it's like you're making me want to cry. It's crazy, it's just amazing just to see you sing that song and if I could, I would bring a remote to rewind that performance back, but eff it, that's what Comcast or YouTube is for."
Leon laughed and Nicki smiled, "That was just so amazing, please don't ever change."
The crowd cheered and Mariah was next to judge.
"I love you. Period. Nicki and Keith pretty much took all of the words out of my mouth. In the words of Randy Jackson, 'this guy is in it to win it!'"
Leon smiled as the crowd cheered with loudness. Ryan asked Leon a question, "How do you feel now that you made Nicki almost cry?"
"Um, sorry?" Leon said bashfully. Nicki replied, "It's okay, boo, it's tears of joy."
"Now, our next performer is Denver's very own, Ethan Greyson, let's take a look of his life before American Idol."
I'm Ethan Greyson, I'm 18 years old and I'm from Denver, Colorado. I always had my future set on singing ever since I began playing the piano when I was 7 years old. I just felt like a lot attempted to stop me from getting to my dreams. Many others teased me when I was in middle and high school because they thought I was more of a loner. But now that I'm growing up, I do want to prove them wrong. American Idol will be the best thing for me and I want to represent a new type of music to Idol. I just want to inspire people and show them that it's okay to be yourself.
"Give me love like her, 'cause lately I've been waking up alone. Paint splattered teardrops on my shirt, told you I'd let them go, and that I'll fight my corner, maybe tonight I'll call ya, after my blood turns into alcohol, no, I just wanna hold ya. Give a little time to me or burn this out, we'll play hide and seek to turn this around, all I want is the taste that your lips allow, my, my, my, my, oh give me love, my, my, my, my, oh give me love, my, my, my, my, oh give me love, my, my, my, my, oh give me love, my, my, my, my, oh give me love."
Everyone cheered as he continued to sing. "Give a little time to me or burn this out, we'll play hide and seek to turn this around, all I want is the taste that your lips allow, my, my, my, my, oh give me love, give a little time to me, or burn this out, we'll play hide and seek to turn this around, all I want is the taste that your lips allow, my, my, my, my, oh give me love, my, my, my, my, oh give me love, my, my, my, my, oh give me love, my, my, my, my, oh give me love, my my, my, my, oh give me love. M-my my, m-my my, m-my my, give me love, lover (give me love), my-my my, m-my my, m-my my, give me love, lover (give me love). M-my my, m-my my, m-my my, give me love, lover (give me love, love me). M-my my, m-my my, m-my my, give me love, lover (give me love)."
Everyone gave Ethan's performance plaudits and the judges smiled as they all stood up for a standing ovation.
"You know, Ethan, there's something unique about your voice that I truly acknowledge. It's really different from all of the other guys in the competition, and everything about it is really amazing and I am confident that you will not be going home anytime soon, buddy." Keith said.
Ethan grinned and replied, "Thank you so much."
"Ethan, Ethan, Ethan, boo, you rocked it tonight." Nicki said. "It's just an honor to hear your voice, you're the main person I wanted to hear tonight and I just love the fact that you are so different from the other contestants, it shows something completely new to this show. And the fact that you are trying to represent others that have their dreams and they are almost deferred, you are a true role model to all of these kids today, good job."
"When I first heard your voice, I saw that spark in your eye that showed me that you were willing to represent your fans and children out there. You are most definitely an admirable person and I wish you the best in the future too, and I wish that you will make it to the top 12 this season. Nice job, darling." Mariah said.
Ethan was ecstatic as Ryan walked up to him and grabbed his left shoulder. "You say that you want to represent the others, how do you think you will do that if you stay for the top 12?"
"I would do that by giving all of my effort to be here, I worked so hard to become a part of this and I am really grateful for having this chance. I just want to go from having nothing to something so all of the fans and the kids out there who go through what I went through in the past will be able to look up to me and try to walk in my footsteps."
"And I love the fact that you're doing that." Nicki said. "Because you know that will make you a down-to-earth person, you are a good kid, Ethan and I am really proud of you."
"The judges love Ethan, but with these two contestants left to perform, will they get the same reception as him? Jesse Valentine will be coming to perform after this break, stay tuned."
Jesse gave a thumbs up at the camera.
"We're almost at the end of the top 12 boys night for American Idol, but this next contestant will be performing to determine if he is willing to be our next star. Let's take a look at his journey before American Idol."
Jesse Valentine here, I'm 18 years old and I'm from Colorado. My main opportunity was to sing. I loved playing instruments and I usually isolated myself to sing alone. But singing wasn't exactly in my father's plans. I'm a guy who fought for everything in my life to get to American Idol. I wanted to give up everything just to follow my dreams. I'm very dedicated and hardworking and I hope it can rub off on my performance tonight.
"I'd love to know just what you're thinkin', every little river, runnin' through your mind. You give and you take, you come and you go, you leave me here wonderin' if I'll ever know. How much you care or how much you don't, whatever you need, whatever you want. If you're gonna be somebody's heartbreak, if you're gonna be somebody's mistake, if you're gonna be somebody's first time, somebody's last time, baby be mine. If you're lookin' to be somebody's 'just friends', a little laughin', little lovin', never callin' again, that's just fine, if you're gonna be somebody's heartbreak, be mine, yeah, oh, be mine. I guess that all I'm tryin' to tell ya is a minute with you is better than two without. Oh, I won't be a fool but I can't play it cool, so I'm playin' safe and I'm breakin' the rules, I'm wishin' I had what I know that you got, so if you're comin' my way then please don't stop. If you're gonna be somebody's heartbreak, if you're gonna be somebody's mistake, if you're gonna be somebody's first time, somebody's last time, baby be mine. If you're lookin' to be somebody's 'just friends', a little laughin', little lovin', never callin' again, that's just fine, if you're gonna be somebody's heartbreak, be mine, yeah, oh, be mine."
"Hi, Jesse." Mariah smiled at him as the crowd continued to cheer for him.
"Um, about the performance, I felt like it was a bit safe in the beginning, you did show more of yourself at the end, and I think that was great for your performance."
"Thank you." Jesse said.
"Unfortunately, I don't think I can hop on the bandwagon with you there, Mariah." Keith said. "I felt like it wasn't as good as your other performances during Hollywood and Vegas Week."
Keith was booed by the audience and he continued to talk. "I mean, your vocals were most definitely on point, believe that, but also, the judges all have to see the emotion and see what song fits for you. I just didn't see the emotion and I didn't think that song was perfect for you."
Keith was once again booed and Nicki began to talk. "Now, my funny little Valentine. Don't mind Keith, he's just a hater. Boo, that was amazing. And when you hit those little runs at the end, you know what you're doing and I don't care who else thinks differently, we know you can shine."
Jesse smiled and thanked Nicki and Ryan walked over, "So, Keith, you did get a little hard on Jesse tonight besides Mariah and Nicki, do you still think he could have a chance to be in the top 12?"
"I mean, of course, but it depends on if we all agree, and it's gonna be a very tough decision to make because all of the boys tonight were good." Keith said.
"Good job and good luck, Jesse. Now, we're down to our final performance of the night, but will it impress the judges? Brett Hawkins will perform for you after this break. Stay tuned."
Brett waved at the camera.
"Top 12 Boys Night is almost over, but before we go, have we saved the best guy for last? Let's take a look at Brett Hawkins and his journey before American Idol."
My name is Brett Hawkins, I'm 21 and I'm from St. Louis, Missouri. Living homeless was hard, it was devastating and it was completely uncomfortable. I had to sing in public in order to make more money to provide for my family, when my father died of cancer, it was the most shocking part that has left me. To prove that I can help my family overcome the struggle with poverty, American Idol can help me get where I want to go and help my family and start a new life.
"Easy come, easy go, that's just how you live, oh. Take, take, take it all, but you never give. Should've known you was trouble from the first kiss, had your eyes wide open, why were they open? Gave you all I had and you tossed it in the trash, you tossed it in the trash, you did. To give me all your love is all I ever asked, cause what you don't understand is... I'd catch a grenade for you, throw my hand on a blade for you I'd jump in front of a train for you, you know I'd do anything for you, oh, I would go through all this pain take a bullet straight through my brain, yes, I would die for you, baby, but you won't do the same. If my body was on fire, oh, you would watch me burn down in flames, you said you loved me, you're a liar, cause you never ever ever did, baby. But, darling, I'd still catch a grenade for you, throw my hand on a blade for you I'd jump in front of a train for you, you know I'd do anything for you, oh, I would go through all this pain take a bullet straight through my brain, yes, I would die for you, baby, but you won't do the same. No, you won't do the same, you wouldn't do the same, oh, you'd never do the same, oh, no no no."
Keith, Nicki and Mariah all stood up for a standing ovation, and Brett's family cheered with happiness.
"Brett Freaking Hawkins. Dude, that was freaking awesome. If I could, I would just buy your album right now." Keith said. "It was just that awesome, and I really hope you make it to the final 12."
Everyone cheered and Nicki began to speak.
"There goes my little marshmallow. There he goes. Looking all sexy tonight, boy, how you doing?" Nicki said.
"I dressed up sexy for you."
The crowd gave out oohs and aahs, and Nicki began to blush, Keith looked at her and laughed, "Are you blushing?"
"Boy, you can call me." Nicki giggled. "Anyway, I think it's great to say that we saved the best for last tonight, you did an awesome job and I could just picture myself feeling your pain, your backstory and everything convinces me to believe that you are one of the most talented singers here on American Idol. If you, Nicholas, Trae, Sam, Ethan, and Leon were all in one group, I would be obsessed with you all."
"Thank you so much." Brett said.
"Nicki, if you had the chance to be the Bachelorette.." Ryan began to ask a question, while Nicki laughed and covered up herself inside both of her arms.
"And you had to choose between Casey Stocker and Brett Hawkins, who would it be?"
"Ryan, don't do this to meeee." Nicki said innocently. "They both are my little marshmallows, no!"
"Okay, then, I guess that is unresolved!" Ryan said. Nicki nodded her head, "Yep, boo."
